Intentions
For my personal portfolio I decided to explore the concept of street, it is a fascinating because it is in centre of everyone’s lives. This is the place where most interactions happen, where people from different cultures mix especially after the recent events in London (terrorist attacks, Brexit). In this project I aim to capture the negative and positive side of the street life. One aspect I will be looking at is homelessness, I have previous experience with this topic as I have already done a shoot that was staged however for this project I will try to capture people on the street and try tell their stories. Another thing I wanted to do was take portraits of people on the street, like Humans of New York and get them to say somethings about their lives.
I will begin this by exploring a broad range of artists that capture the same aspect of the concept which will then enable me to create my initial photographic work. Throughout the project I will continue to research artists and try to shoot in their styles however I don’t want the work to be identical so I will be developing the work on Photoshop. For the shoots I want to focus on less popular parts of London as I feel like not many photographers capture the beauty of these areas. I will experiment by using different techniques such as collage, sewing over the photographs, Photoshop…burning parts of images from the homelessness shoot I feel this would send a powerful message as it suggest that they have lost everything, it may have been by the decision they made in their lives or just natural disasters. Also by using Photoshop I will add “wealthy areas” in London in the gaps where the image was burnt so there is contrast between the rich and poor.
London is a perfect place for these shoots as it is a multicultural city and the homelessness count is on the rise, the richer are getting richer and poor people are getting poorer. However I would like to do a shoot in a different city to see how it compares to London.
Before any shoot there are factor I will have to take into account like time of the day which will determine how busy the places are, the amount of light and the temperature.
