Eric Pickersgill
It is clear that technology is having an impact on our daily lives but how much exactly... Eric Pickersgill has managed to capture this through his photographs. His works shows how disengaged we are to our environments and how we tend to ignore people around us to spend that time on our phones. What I like about his is that it portraits the truth of today’s society. The black and white image remove all the colour from the photographs which puts empathies on how bad phones have impacted social interactions while it helps the viewer focus on the subjects emotional state without being distracted, allowing the subject to communicate to the viewer through the image. Pickergill’s work is great in the sense that he has removed all the phones from his images however you can still get the gist of what he is trying to say through his photographs. His title “REMOVED” is also very powerful and shows how when we are on our phones we are removed from the environment and although we might think if we are on social media we are “being social” and communicating with people. When in reality it’s not the case as when we use phones we tend to forget about who is around and this distances people leading them to feeling isolated. The absences of phones in the pictures takes a humorous outlook at the subject and shows how ridiculous we look when we use our phones when there are people next to us. However the internet does make it easier for anyone to talk about their problems and get help. Apps like “Talklife ” help people share their problems and talk to people who have similar problems as them. |
